The main difference in wiring batteries in series vs. parallel is the impact on the output voltage and the capacity of the battery system. Batteries wired in series will have their voltages added together. Batteries wired in parallel will have their capacity (measured in amp-hours) added together. However, the total available energy (measured in watt-hours) of the battery system with the same battery amount is always the same even with different connection methods.
DEPTH OF DISCHARGE (DOD) The lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries typically have a higher depth of discharge values. About 85% of the energy capacity can be drained before they need to be charged. Compared to lead-acid batteries, they can only be discharged up to 50%. Continuing to use the battery beyond that point will negatively affect its lifespan and effectiveness.
No, as our batteries are not designed for starting, we don’t recommend using these batteries for starting. It may damage the batteries in long-term use if used as a starting power source.
Ampere Time LiFePO4 battery is considered the perfect replacement battery for the AGM battery. The LiFePO4 battery will become the majority used in the future as it has superior performance compared with other AGM batteries. You can use it to replace your lead-acid batteries and start to enjoy a free & fruitful life.
All of our Ampere Time LiFePO4 battery has an IP65 protection class, which sets you free from worrying to install it indoors or outdoors. But when charging or discharging the battery, please be careful not to let the post bolts or terminals come into contact with water, as this may damage the battery.

The main difference between our 12V 200Ah and 12V 200Ah Plus LiFePO4 battery is the different BMS. Our 12V 200Ah LiFePO4 battery has built-in 100A BMS, which could support max. 100A continuous charge/discharge current and max. 1280W continuous load power. Our 12V 200Ah Plus LiFePO4 battery has built-in 200A BMS, which could support max. 200A continuous charge/discharge current and max. 2560W load power.
For a longer-lasting product, we suggest that you could store your Ampere Time LiFePO4 battery at a 50% charge level and recharge every 3 months if the battery is not going to be used for a long time, and a temperature between 10°C to 35°C / 50°F to 95°F is ideal for the long-term storage. Besides, please store it in a fireproof container and away from children.
We now have a 12V 100Ah battery and 12V 200Ah battery with an automatic self-heating function that supports the lowest -4°F working temperature. It is an upgrade based on the previous battery; especially built-in self-heating pads enable charging at -4°F ambient temperature. And we do not recommend charging the batteries not marked as having a low-temperature cut-off function below 32°F as it might damage the battery.
Yes, you can connect 2*12V batteries in series to build a 24V battery system.
You can connect 8 batteries in 2P4S or 4P2S( “P” refers to parallel and “S” refers to series). For example, if you connect 8*12V 100Ah batteries in 2P4S, you will get a 48V (51.2V) 200Ah battery system. While you connect them in 4P2S, you will get a 24V (25.6V) 400Ah battery system.
We do not recommend to connected the Ampere Time 12V 100Ah battery and 200Ah battery together. Here are two main reasons why we don't suggest connecting batteries with different capacities: ① After parallel connection of batteries with different capacities, the current of 200Ah is twice as large as that of 100Ah when charging/discharging at the same time. ② The internal resistance of the 200Ah battery is 2-4mΩ, and that of the 100Ah battery is 7-9mΩ. When the batteries with different impedances are connected in parallel, it is possible to damage BMS after long-term use. The premise of Connection
We do not suggest that you connect Ampere Time batteries with other brands’ batteries. Below are the detailed explanations why we don’t recommend connecting batteries from different brands. ① Batteries from different brands have different cells. Although they are all LiFePO4 cells, their charging and discharging are a little different. If the cells are different, there will be a little difference in battery pack capacity. ② The over-current capacity and protection provided by BMS from different brands are different. If the overcharge and over-discharge protection parameters are different, it will affect the voltage difference between batteries after being used in series. ③ The MOS withstand voltage values of the BMS from different brands are different. Some battery packs from other brands do not support series connections. If the withstand voltages of MOS are different, it may burn out the BMS after series connection. The premise of Connection To connect in series or /and parallel, batteries should meet the below conditions: a. identical batteries with the same battery capacity (Ah) and BMS (A); b. from the same brand (as lithium battery from different brands has their special BMS); c. purchased in near time (within one month).
We do not suggest you connect Ampere Time lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries with AGM batteries, as they are two different types of batteries and their charging and discharging are very different.
We suggest that you install the battery upright with the post bolts facing up, and it could not be mounted upside down. If you need to mount the battery at its side, please contact service@amperetime.com to confirm the direction.
Most of our customers will use a multimeter to check the voltage of their Ampere Time LiFePO4 batteries. Based on the characteristics of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, the voltage measured by all LiFePO4 batteries during charging/discharging is not the real voltage of the battery. Therefore, after charging/discharging and disconnecting the battery from the power source, the voltage of the battery will gradually drop/increase to its real voltage. If you need to test the real voltage of the battery, please disconnect all the connections with the battery and test its voltage after putting it aside for over 30 mins.
Ampere Time lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery (12V 50Ah/100Ah/200Ah/200Ah Plus/300Ah/400Ah, 24V 100Ah/200Ah, and 48V 100Ah/100Ah-16S) with superior automobile grade cell and reliable BMS system with a low discharge rate, which enables provide 4000+ cycles & a 10-year lifetime.
Most of our customers will use a multimeter to check the voltage of their Ampere Tim LiFePO4 batteries. And you could roughly estimate your battery's remaining power by its rest (open-circuit) voltage. Based on the characteristics of LiFePO4 batteries, the voltage measured by all LiFePO4 batteries during charging/discharging is not the real voltage of the battery. Therefore, after charging/discharging and disconnecting the battery from the power source, the voltage of the battery will gradually drop/increase to its real voltage. If you need to test the real voltage of the battery, please disconnect all the connections to the battery and test its voltage after putting it aside for over 30 mins. Here take 12V 100Ah battery as an example, please refer to below SOC: Capacity---Voltage 100%---13.5V 99%---13.4V 90%--- 13.3V 70% --- 13.2V 40% --- 13.1V 30% --- 13.0V 20% --- 12.9V 10%---12.8V 1% ---10.8V (recommend low voltage disconnect voltage) 0% ---9.5V
All Ampere Time LiFePO4 batteries have built-in BMS, which protects the battery from overcharging, over-discharging, over current, short circuit, and high-temperature environment.
The charging current will not be limited by the internal battery management system (BMS). Generally, we recommend charging the battery with a 0.2C charging rate, which is the optimal charging rate for lithium battery charging. Example: For a 12V 100Ah battery, the most recommended charging current is 100Ah*0.2C=20A.
General Steps If the BMS has cut off the battery for protection, follow the below steps to activate it. Step 1: Cut off all the connections from the battery Step 2: Leave the battery aside for 30mins. Then the battery will automatically recover itself to normal voltage (>10V) and can be used after fully charged. If the battery is unable to recover itself after the above steps.please try activating by one of below two methods. After activated (voltage>10V) and fully charged by the normal charging method, it can be used normally. Method ① Use a charger with a 0V charging function to fully charge the battery Method ② Connect an 18V-36V solar panel directly to charge the battery without a controller for 10~30mins in sunny daytime.
Ampere Time LiFePo4 battery is widely used with a solar panel system. It’s recommended to confirm the compatibility of the solar charger with a LiFePO4 battery and check if the charge rate matches the requirement of your battery. Two key pieces of information to find the right solar charger for your battery: ① Support Li/LiFePO4 mode ② DC charging current < the max. charging current supported by the battery BMS board Please feel free to contact us for a detailed solution.
Before choosing a charger for your Ampere Time LiFePO4 battery, you can refer to the following info: ① Dedicated LiFePO4 battery charger / support LiFePO4 charging mode; ② DC charging voltage and DC charging current match the requirement that we list in the user manua. Please contact Ampere Time Customer Service Center for more details.
You can test the battery rest voltage with a voltmeter by referring to the SOC chart below. As there are subtle differences in the voltage of each battery, the below parameters are for reference only. (Please note: The rest voltage should be tested after disconnecting from all devices in 30mins.) Capacity---Voltage 100%---13.5V 99% ---13.4V 90% ---13.3V 70% ---13.2V 40% ---13.1V 30% ---13.0V 20% ---12.9V 10% --- 12.8V 1% ---10.8V (recommend low voltage disconnect voltage) 0% --- 9.5V Normally, the battery is at full charge when its rest voltage drops and remains ≥13.4V.
Generally, it’s no problem to use the lead-acid battery charger to charge our lithium battery in a short time. But we recommend a LiFePO4 battery charger because, on one hand, a lead-acid battery charger can only charge our battery to 90% capacity and might influence our battery performance in long-term use. On the other hand, a LiFePO4 battery charger is designed for our LiFePO4 battery and can maximize its performance.
The charging time of the battery depends on the type and size of your charging source. Charging time (H) = battery rated capacity (Ah) / rated charging current (A). For example, if you use a 20A battery charger to charge our 12V 100Ah battery, it will be fully charged in around 100Ah/20A=5hrs. If you have further questions about charging, please feel free to contact us.
It is recommended to charge a 12V100Ah battery with a 14.6V 20A (which will charge the 100Ah battery at 0.2C) dedicated LiFePO4 battery charger. You could also choose a 14.6V dedicated LiFePO4 battery charger with a DC charging current of less than 100A.
Based on the characteristics of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, the voltage measured by all LiFePO4 batteries during charging is not the real voltage of the battery. Therefore, after charging and disconnecting the battery from the power source, the voltage of the battery will gradually drop to its real voltage. If you need to test the real voltage of the battery, please charge, disconnect the power supply and test its voltage after putting it aside for over 30 mins.
The battery capacity could be roughly estimated by its voltage. As there are subtle differences in the voltage of each battery, the below parameters are for reference only. The voltage needs to be tested at rest (with zero current) after 30 mins of disconnecting from the charger & loads. 12V battery: ≥13.4V 24V battery: ≥26.8V 48V battery: ≥50.3V 48V battery (16s): ≥53.6V If you have any further questions, please contact us for more details.
